Mumbai: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for two new national highway projects in Pune, Maharashtra. The projects include the four-laning of the Dive Ghat to Hadapsar stretch on NH-965 and the construction of bridges over the Mula-Mutha River along NH-48, improving traffic flow in key areas.
The NH-965 upgrade is expected to reduce congestion, particularly during the annual Palkhi Yatra, providing dedicated walkways for devotees. Gadkari noted that resting spots will also be developed along the route.
Additionally, service roads from Sinhagad Road to Warje on the Pune-Satara section will be widened to address persistent traffic issues. The development plans include an elevated corridor on NH-60 worth ₹7,500 crore and further projects on the Ravet to Narhe corridor valued at ₹5,000 crore, expected to start by the end of 2024.
These developments are intended to enhance connectivity between Pune, Satara, and Solapur, aiding local economies and agricultural trade while also reducing traffic congestion and accidents in the region. The projects will also facilitate faster travel to key pilgrimage sites and improve road safety.
