Mumbai: In a significant move to equip students with industry-relevant skills and enhance employability, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Mumbai. This institute, established through a public-private partnership between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Tata IIS, aims to cultivate an industry-ready workforce for Industry 4.0 by training 5,000 students annually.
IIS will offer hands-on training across a range of areas including factory automation, digital manufacturing, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and additive manufacturing, catering to both the manufacturing sector and emerging businesses. Initially, six specialized courses will be launched in Advanced Industrial Automation & Robotics, Industrial Automation Fundamentals, Advanced ARC Welding Techniques, Additive Manufacturing, Electric Vehicle Battery Specialist, and 2 and 3-wheeler EV Technician. The institute will also have advanced laboratories developed in collaboration with over 15 Indian and global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure that students get affordable practical experience in using real industry equipment. In addition to the above-stated core courses, IIS will also offer short-term courses in collaboration with industry partners.
Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Government of Maharashtra while talking about the scope of the initiative expressed that the center will attract people from around the world to collaborate and learn together. The launch of the facility is in line with the government’s vision to prioritize the upskilling of youth to meet current industry standards.
