New Delhi: Reliance Group, led by Anil Ambani, has signed an agreement with Bhutan’s Druk Holding and Investments Ltd. (DHI) to develop 1,270 MW of renewable energy projects. The collaboration, formalized today, includes solar and hydropower projects aimed at expanding Bhutan’s clean energy capacity.
The first project under this agreement is a 500 MW solar power plant in Gelephu, to be developed in two phases. Technical teams from both sides are currently conducting site assessments. Additionally, the companies will jointly develop the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-1 hydroelectric project.
The partnership marks one of the largest Indian investments in Bhutan’s renewable energy sector, with plans to strengthen Bhutan’s energy infrastructure. Reliance Power and Druk Holding’s collaboration is set to support Bhutan’s clean energy goals and economic development.
Ujjwal Deep Dahal, CEO of Druk Holding, emphasized that the projects will benefit both countries, focusing on sustainable energy solutions. The initiative comes amid Bhutan’s broader push to enhance its renewable energy resources, aligning with its long-term sustainability targets. This development highlights increasing cross-border cooperation in green energy between India and Bhutan.
