New Delhi: AVPL International announced plans on Tuesday to establish a drone manufacturing unit in Bihar’s Bihta Industrial Area, marking a significant development in India’s growing drone technology sector. The facility will involve an investment of ₹15 crore.
Spread across 16,000 square feet, the facility is designed to manufacture up to 24,000 drones annually, catering to the rising demand for unmanned aerial vehicles in sectors like agriculture, surveillance, and logistics. The company stated that this initiative aligns with the broader push for fostering local manufacturing under the government’s “Make in India” program.
The project is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, directly and indirectly benefiting the region. According to AVPL, the unit will employ 200 in-house workers while creating an additional 10,000 jobs through supply chain and support activities.
“This initiative aims to not only manufacture drones but also empower communities through skill development and support for drone-based entrepreneurship,” said Preet Sandhuu, Founder and Managing Director of AVPL International.
Founded in 2016, AVPL International has a notable presence across 12 states in India and operates more than 70 skill and incubation hubs, focusing on capacity building in emerging industries.
The manufacturing facility is part of a broader trend of decentralizing technology hubs and focusing on tier-2 and tier-3 regions. Bihar, often overlooked in terms of industrial development, could benefit from this investment, particularly in generating skilled jobs and building local expertise in drone technology.
The move also reflects the expanding scope of drone applications in India, which is rapidly becoming a key player in the global drone ecosystem. AVPL’s focus on domestic manufacturing could help reduce dependency on imports and further strengthen India’s self-reliance in cutting-edge technology sectors.
This development signals a step forward in integrating advanced technologies into local economies while addressing the growing demand for drones across various sectors.
