New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) have jointly launched an integrated QR-based ticketing system, marking a significant milestone in public transportation in the National Capital Region (NCR). This initiative aims to simplify and streamline the travel experience for commuters across Delhi Metro and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
The QR ticketing system will enable passengers to travel seamlessly using a single QR code for both metro and RRTS journeys. Commuters can generate and use these codes through mobile applications, ensuring hassle-free transitions between the two services. The system eliminates the need for separate tokens or cards, reducing waiting times at ticket counters.
Speaking at the launch, officials highlighted that this move aligns with the government’s push towards a cashless economy and sustainable urban mobility. This collaboration reflects the broader vision of integrating urban transport systems in India, promoting digitalization, and enhancing passenger convenience. The system is particularly beneficial for frequent travelers and daily commuters, who can now avoid the inconvenience of managing multiple tickets. Furthermore, the QR codes offer added security and flexibility, as they are less prone to misuse and can be easily regenerated if lost.
With Delhi Metro serving millions daily and the newly operational RRTS offering high-speed transit across NCR, this initiative is expected to enhance ridership while setting a benchmark for other regions in India. The integrated QR ticketing system is expected to transform public transportation by making it more efficient, user-friendly, and technologically advanced.
This development highlights DMRC and NCRTC’s efforts to innovate and develop passenger-centric solutions, paving the way for smarter mobility options in India.
