Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde submitted his resignation as his tenure officially came to an end with the conclusion of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. However, Governor CP Radhakrishna has requested Shinde to continue serving as the caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is formed.
The resignation follows the recently concluded state elections, where Shinde’s leadership under the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, and his Shiv Sena faction, played a significant role. The alliance emerged as a leading force, securing a dominant position in the elections.
This marks the culmination of Shinde’s tenure, which began in June 2022 after he led a political revolt against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government, aligning with the BJP to assume power. During his time as CM, Shinde implemented several welfare schemes, including infrastructure initiatives and social programs, gaining recognition for his hands-on governance style.
The Governor’s decision to designate Shinde as a caretaker CM ensures the state has leadership continuity until the election results pave the way for the next administration.
