New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has appointed Ravi K as its new Director (Operations). With over three decades of experience in various sectors, Ravi is set to oversee HAL’s strategic and operational functions, including capacity optimization and technology upgrades.
Ravi K previously served as the Executive Director (Corporate Planning) at HAL and is a Mechanical Engineering graduate with credentials from IIM Ahmedabad and IAS, Toulouse, France. His tenure at HAL has been marked by significant contributions to the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas program, a key project for India’s defense sector.
During his leadership in the LCA program, Ravi played a pivotal role in finalizing the contract for the supply of 83 LCA Mk1A aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2021, valued at over ₹36,000 crore. He also contributed to expanding HAL’s production capacity to manufacture 16 LCA units annually and facilitated the delivery of the program’s first twin-seater aircraft.
In addition to production milestones, Ravi headed initiatives to enhance the indigenization of components in the LCA program. Under his leadership, the division worked with private partners to outsource major fuselage assemblies, transitioning HAL’s role to that of a lead integrator.
As General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division, Ravi implemented measures to improve fleet serviceability and streamlined communication with the IAF through a single point of contact for operational issues.
Going forward, Ravi’s focus areas include strengthening HAL’s global presence and addressing challenges in supply chain management, technology integration, and digital transformation. His appointment comes as HAL seeks to bolster its role in India’s defense manufacturing sector amid growing demands for self-reliance and export capabilities.
