Gurgaon: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced two significant measures to strengthen the state’s higher education system – the launch of a Rs 20 crore Haryana State Research Fund and the establishment of a Model Sanskriti College in every district.
The announcements were made during a pre-Budget consultation meeting with education experts and women representatives held in Gurgaon.
Stressing the role of research in academia, Saini said innovation and inquiry are central to quality higher education and the new fund would support research activities in universities and government colleges, helping develop a strong academic ecosystem.
The chief minister said one government college in each of Haryana’s 22 districts will be upgraded into a Model Sanskriti College, with full implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) by the 2026-27 academic session. These institutions will promote holistic education, modern teaching practices and improved institutional collaboration in line with NEP-2020.
Saini also referred to the launch of the NEEV Portal, a data-driven platform aimed at improving coordination between policy planning and implementation.
Reviewing last year’s Budget, he said Rs 21,893 crore was allocated to education after considering stakeholder inputs, leading to initiatives such as Model Sanskriti Schools, STEM labs and student linkages with institutions like ISRO and DRDO.
Women’s welfare, he added, will remain a key focus in the upcoming Budget.
