New Delhi: The Department of Posts has marked a major step in digital logistics by successfully handling its first online order through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The order was booked on 13 January, with the Department acting as a Logistics Service Provider, and was delivered on 15 January.
The maiden consignment was placed by UdyamWell, an ONDC-enabled platform that works to empower artisans, farmers and rural entrepreneurs by providing end-to-end business support. This development highlights the Department’s move toward offering technology-driven and interoperable logistics services.
Through its integration with ONDC, sellers using ONDC-enabled buyer applications can now choose the Department of Posts for parcel pickup, booking and delivery.
Currently operational under the “Click & Book” model, the service allows digital pickup requests, doorstep collection and end-to-end tracking. The initiative is expected to boost e-commerce access for MSMEs and small sellers nationwide.
