New Delhi: Tata Power and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to assess $4.25 billion in financing for clean energy projects. The MoU was finalized during the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, and focuses on renewable energy expansion and infrastructure development.
The agreement will evaluate funding for key projects such as a 966 MW solar-wind hybrid system, a pumped hydro storage project, and other initiatives aimed at energy transition and decarbonization. Tata Power also plans to use the funding to strengthen its power distribution networks and invest in advanced battery storage solutions.
A significant aspect of the partnership involves integrating gender and climate actions into project frameworks, aiming to empower women while promoting sustainable practices. This aligns with India’s commitment to achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The collaboration comes as India intensifies its efforts to transition away from fossil fuels. Large-scale projects like the solar-wind hybrid system and hydro storage solutions under consideration are seen as critical to enhancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure and improving energy security.
The MoU highlights the growing importance of private-public collaborations in meeting global climate goals and fostering sustainable development. Both organizations are expected to finalize project evaluations and funding mechanisms in the coming months, with a focus on supporting India’s renewable energy commitments and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The partnership is also expected to drive innovation and long-term environmental sustainability in India.
