Mumbai: IndusInd Bank has announced a strategic partnership with UNICEF to bolster climate risk management and disaster resilience across five aspirational districts: Dharashiv (Maharashtra), Begusarai (Bihar), Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), Baran (Rajasthan), and Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh). This initiative is part of IndusInd Bank’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program under its Holistic Rural Development framework.
The program aims to develop climate-informed administrative systems, strengthen disaster risk reduction, and empower local governments to implement effective climate solutions. Key interventions include real-time monitoring systems, early warning mechanisms, and community advisory services to address risks such as droughts, floods, and heat waves.
Srinivas Bonam, Head of Inclusive Banking Group, CSR & Sustainability at IndusInd Bank, highlighted the institution’s commitment to societal and environmental upliftment. He stated that partnering with UNICEF is both an honor and a responsibility. Together, we the organizations aim to drive meaningful change and empower communities for a sustainable future.
UNICEF’s Deputy Representative for Programmes, Arjan de Wagt, emphasized the partnership’s focus on building disaster-resilient communities, particularly for vulnerable children. By collaborating with local panchayats and stakeholders, the initiative aspires to enhance sustainability and climate resilience.
The program will involve multiple stakeholders: IIT Gandhinagar will design advanced monitoring systems, the Gorakhpur Environment Action Group will focus on training local officials, and Mission Samriddhi will foster stakeholder engagement and knowledge sharing. Oversight will be provided by the CSR Trust for SDGs in India (CTSI).
IndusInd Bank, with a legacy of innovation spanning three decades, serves over 41 million customers through 3,040 branches and digital platforms. The bank’s CSR initiatives reflect its commitment to holistic growth, blending financial services with impactful social and environmental interventions.
