New Delhi: Inder Pal Singh Sethi has taken charge as the Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) effective January 1, 2025. He succeeded Rajesh Gera who joined as the Director General, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) on 31st May 2022. The NIC, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has played a pivotal role in providing e-Governance solutions and ICT support to the Indian government since its establishment in 1976.
Focus Areas Under New Leadership
As the new head, Sethi is expected to look after the NIC’s initiatives across various domains, including:

e-Governance Solutions: Development and maintenance of software for government departments.

ICT Infrastructure: Managing NICNET, the National Knowledge Network (NKN), data centers, and video conferencing services.

Digital India Support: Assisting the government in achieving Digital India objectives.

Data Analytics and Emerging Technologies: Leveraging NIC’s Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics to explore innovative technological solutions.
Key Contributions to Digital Governance
The NIC has been instrumental in enabling several Digital India projects and is deeply involved in capacity building, research, and development in the field of information technology. It also provides consultancy to government bodies on adopting emerging technologies.

With over four decades of experience in e-Governance and ICT, NIC’s leadership transition comes at a time when digital governance and emerging technologies are critical to public service delivery. Under Shri Inder Pal Singh Sethi’s leadership, NIC is expected to focus on further enhancing digital infrastructure and exploring innovative solutions to support governance in India.
