The West Bengal Fisheries Department is providing more than 6,000 insulated boxes and automated weighing machines for fish sellers across the state. A notification to the effect was released yesterday from the Fisheries Department.
These 6000+ fish sellers have been shortlisted and identified district wise for this financial year. The numbers are likely to increase in the next fiscal. The overall project will incur a cost of Rs 31 lakh this fiscal.
The maximum number of 432 beneficiary fish sellers have been identified at East Medinipur district followed by 400 each at North and South 24 Parganas and Jhargram.
With temperature rising across the state and subsequent onset of summer, thr insulated boxes will keep the fishes fresh with ice packs. This will be immensely beneficial especially for the mobile fish sellers.
