New Delhi: State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has signed agreements worth Rs 500 crore with international organizations and IIT Hyderabad to advance large-scale energy efficiency projects.
The partnerships, announced at India Energy Week 2025, aim to support clean energy initiatives across multiple sectors, including lighting, mobility, cooling, and renewable energy.
Key Partnerships and Areas of Focus
EESL, a joint venture under the Ministry of Power, has formalized collaborations with:
Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF): This partnership will help expand energy-efficient solutions beyond India’s borders, focusing on lighting, clean cooking, space heating, and consultancy services.
IIT Hyderabad: The agreement aims to integrate energy-efficient technologies and innovations into research and educational frameworks.
State and Farmer Cooperatives: EESL signed agreements to implement Solar Power Micro Cold Storage Solutions (SPMCS) in Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, benefiting farmers by reducing post-harvest losses and greenhouse gas emissions.
Government’s Push for Energy Efficiency
These agreements align with India’s broader goal of improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. The solar-powered cold storage projects, in particular, support sustainable agricultural practices by offering energy-efficient storage to farmers at the farm gate.
EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor stated that these collaborations reflect a commitment to scaling clean energy adoption and fostering technological advancements through partnerships.
The agreements mark a strategic push toward large-scale energy efficiency solutions while strengthening India’s cooperation with global and domestic institutions in the clean energy sector.
It should be noted that EESL, a Super Energy Service Company (ESCO), empowers consumers, industries and governments to manage their energy needs effectively through energy-efficient technologies.
It operates across diverse sectors, including lighting, buildings, industry, electric mobility, smart metering and agriculture. EESLÂ solutions have resulted in annual energy savings of over 47 billion kWh in India and a reduction of 36.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions.
It is a joint venture (JV) of four leading public-sector undertakings under the Ministry of Power; including NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation Limited, REC Limited, and POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited.
