New Delhi:Â The Delhi government has announced a Rs 1 lakh crore budget for 2025-26, reflecting a 31 per cent increase from the previous year.
Chief Minister and Finance Minister Rekha Gupta presented the budget on Tuesday, outlining major allocations for infrastructure, healthcare, education, and welfare schemes.
Infrastructure and Transport Development
A significant portion of the budget is directed towards infrastructure improvements. The government has allocated Rs 3,800 crore for flyovers and roads, Rs 1,400 crore under the CM Road Development Fund and Rs 3,843 crore for road and bridge infrastructure.
Additionally, Rs 1,000 crore has been set aside to improve transport connectivity within Delhi-NCR.
Health and Education Priorities
The healthcare sector will receive Rs 6,874 crore, with Rs 1,000 crore allocated for the development of 12 hospitals and Rs 320 crore for 400 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and wellness centres. The government also plans to address staff shortages in hospitals and upgrade medical facilities.
For education, Rs 1,000 crore has been earmarked to improve primary schools, universities, and skilling centres. The government will also allocate Rs 500 crore for an education hub in Narela, Rs 100 crore for CM Shree schools, Rs 50 crore for developing 175 computer labs, and Rs 100 crore for smart classrooms. Additionally, 1,200 students in Class 11 will receive laptops.
Welfare Schemes and Women’s Safety
The government has introduced the Mahila Samridhi Yojana with a Rs 5,100 crore allocation, offering Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women. Rs 210 crore has been set aside for financial assistance to pregnant women.
To enhance security, the government will install 50,000 cameras across Delhi. Rs 696 crore has been allocated for improving basic amenities in slums and JJ colonies.
Clean Water and Sanitation Initiatives
With Rs 9,000 crore allocated for clean water and sanitation, the government plans to upgrade the sewer system and expand water pipelines.
Rs 500 crore will be used to set up 40 decentralised sewage systems to clean the Yamuna River.
