New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has allocated Rs 800 crore in its 2024-25 budget to regularise 12,000 contractual employees.
The move aims to provide job security and ensure timely salary payments for workers who have been serving on temporary contracts.
The budget passed during a special House meeting, includes several key financial decisions related to employee welfare and public infrastructure.
Key Budget Allocations
Rs 800 crore for regularisation: The allocated funds will facilitate the transition of 12,000 contractual employees to permanent positions.
Councillor development funds increased: Each councillor will now receive Rs 1.55 crore for local development work, up from Rs 75 lakh. The additional Rs 80 lakh will be drawn from the road maintenance fund.
Public amenities: Rs 25 lakh has been earmarked for constructing women’s toilets in public spaces, while Rs 1 crore has been allocated for the installation and maintenance of street and high-mast lights.
Support for festivals: An additional Rs 50 lakh will be used to enhance facilities for Chhath Puja and other cultural events.
Meanwhile, certain proposals, including a Rs 6 crore allocation for school building repairs and an Rs 18 crore increase for sanitation services, were not approved.
The MCD’s revised estimates for 2024-25 project a revenue of Rs 14,746 crore against an expenditure of Rs 15,767 crore. The allocation for employee regularisation highlights a focus on workforce stability and improved civic services.
