Noida: The much-anticipated launch of Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, may face a delay, with commercial flight operations now expected to begin only after April 30.
Originally scheduled for April 17, the launch is now subject to a review meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on March 10, where a new date is likely to be announced.
Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) confirmed on Thursday that the airport’s operational timeline is dependent on regulatory approvals. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to issue the aerodrome license by April 30, a prerequisite for commencing commercial operations. Additionally, clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) will be required before flights can take off from the new airport.
Authorities have indicated that only domestic flights will operate initially, as the upper floor of the terminal, designated for international passengers, remains under construction. This means that while domestic flight services will commence once approvals are secured, international operations could be delayed further.
Earlier, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu had stated that regular operations would begin in April as per schedule. However, the latest developments suggest a revised launch timeline is imminent. Notably, the first flight validation test at Noida International Airport was successfully conducted on December 9, demonstrating progress in the project.
Apart from finalizing the new launch date, the March 10 review meeting will address critical details such as flight schedules, the number of flights in the first phase, and the types of services to be offered. The outcome of this meeting will provide clarity on when commercial flight operations can officially commence at Noida International Airport.
