Gandhinagar: As part of a move to bolster semiconductor and electronics manufacturing in the state, the Gujarat Government signed eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoU). The agreements were signed at the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The MoUs, amounting to more than Rs. 1.04 lakh crore in investments are expected to create thousands of job opportunities.
Key Investments and Partnerships
JABIL INDIA signed an MoU to establish a Silicon Photonics Manufacturing Unit in Gujarat, investing Rs. 1,000 crore. This unit will produce photonics transceivers crucial for AI, telecom, IoT, and smart infrastructure, generating nearly 1,500 jobs.
India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and Tata Electronics (TEPL) signed a Financial Support Agreement (FSA) for a semiconductor fab unit at Dholera, with an investment of Rs. 91,526 crore, backed by Central government funding.
Tata Electronics and IIT Gandhinagar entered an MoU to enhance semiconductor training and skill development.
Tata Electronics, Taiwan’s PSMC, and Himax Technologies signed a tripartite agreement for semiconductor chip production in Dholera.
Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology (TSMT) committed over Rs. 500 crore for an Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) unit in Gujarat, promising around 1,000 job opportunities.
Micron Technology, based in Sanand, entered an agreement to support environmental, health, and safety initiatives, as well as STEM education and workforce development in rural areas.
NextGen announced a Rs. 10,000 crore investment to establish a compound semiconductor fab and optoelectronics facility in Gujarat, with technical support from Hitachi and Solidlight.
CANS secured a partnership with Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS), a US-based semiconductor chip designer, for multi-year semiconductor chip products, including POWER MOSFETs, IGBTs, and IPMs.
Gujarat’s Strategic Role in Semiconductor Manufacturing
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Patel highlighted Gujarat’s proactive approach to building a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem. He emphasized the Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022 and the development of Dholera as India’s first greenfield smart city with plug-and-play facilities.
The event also saw Netherlands Ambassador to India, Marisa Gerhards, stressing the importance of Indo-Dutch collaboration in semiconductor technology to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi reaffirmed Gujarat’s status as a national manufacturing hub, citing strong financial management, world-class infrastructure, and investor-friendly policies. He highlighted the Dholera Semicon City and Sanand GIDC as key semiconductor packaging hubs, supported by uninterrupted power, water supply, expressway connectivity, and the upcoming Dholera Greenfield Airport, expected to be operational by July 2025.
