Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway has posted a robust performance in passenger revenue for the financial year 2024–25, clocking Rs 1,691.26 crore, a 7.76 per cent rise over last year’s Rs 1,569.44 crore.
It should be noted that around this time frame, Indian Railways operated 32 special trains. As reported, of these, nine trains were dedicated to transporting fans to and from the Coldplay concert, generating Rs 1.21 crore in revenue.
The remaining 23 special services, scheduled around the Mahakumbh festivities, brought in an additional Rs 3.43 crore. Together, these event-based trains contributed over Rs 4.64 crore.
Beyond special trains, the Ahmedabad railway division deployed 1,086 extra coaches throughout the year to ensure seat availability amid peak demand. This move benefitted over 70,000 passengers and added Rs 5.74 crore to overall earnings.
In total, 395 special trains ran under the division’s jurisdiction during the year, carrying close to 3.77 lakh passengers and generating Rs 33.91 crore in revenue.
Non-fare sources also played a supporting role, with earnings from these avenues touching Rs 10.68 crore. Notably, revenue from pay-and-use toilet facilities nearly doubled, increasing from Rs 0.53 crore in 2023–24 to Rs 0.98 crore in the fiscal year 2024-25.
As reported, highlighting the Ahmedabad Railway division’s peak performance days, officials said the highest-ever single-day passenger fare collection was recorded on 5 July 2024 at Rs 7.04 crore. On 12 March 2025, the division witnessed its busiest day in terms of passenger volume, with 1.18 lakh travellers using the service.
