Kolkata: West Bengal has matched ahead in goods and services tax (GST) collections amongst most states in India. Even in registration numbers and increase in stamp duty collections, the state has emerged with flying colors.
During FY 2024-25, the national average increase in GST collections was pegged at 9.44 per cent. In the case of West Bengal, this increase was more than two per cent above the national average.
West Bengal has earned Rs 4,808 crore more in terms of GST collections. This is 11.43 per cent more than the corresponding figure in the previous fiscal.
In FY 2024-25 itself, the state of West Bengal has registered nearly 60,000 deeds. It has collected Rs 1908 crore from these, which translates into a 31.05 per cent increase over the previous year.
These increasing numbers bear testimony to the economic growth primarily driven by heavy industries, social schemes and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), as well as the stupendous success of the MSMEs.
