New Delhi: The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced an upgrade to its biometric authentication process, allowing new GST registration applicants to complete verification at any GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) in their home state.
This change enhances convenience for promoters and directors of select business entities, eliminating the need to visit a designated jurisdictional GSK.
The facility applies to public limited companies, private limited companies, unlimited companies, and foreign companies. Previously, applicants selected for biometric authentication had to visit a specific GSK mapped to their jurisdiction, but now they can choose any GSK within their home state.
Applicants selected for biometric authentication will receive an email notification, allowing them to select a GSK within their home state using the provided link. However, this selection is a one-time process and cannot be modified later.
This facility is currently available in 33 states and Union Territories where biometric authentication is enabled. It will soon be expanded to Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim.
Once applicants finalize their selection, they will receive a confirmation email along with a link for slot booking. Promoters and directors must complete their biometric authentication before the Primary Authorised Signatory (PAS) visits the GSK.
If the PAS and the promoter or director are the same person, they are required to visit their designated jurisdictional GSK.
The option to undergo biometric authentication in the home state is voluntary, and promoters or directors may still choose to visit their designated GSK if they prefer. This enhancement aims to streamline the GST registration process while maintaining security and compliance.
