Mumbai: Reliance Jio is preparing to launch a cloud-based personal computer and an AI platform, JioBrain, aimed at expanding access to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing in India.
Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, shared these plans at Mumbai Tech Week on 28 February, stating that the services will roll out in the coming months.
JioBrain to Offer AI as a Service
JioBrain, first announced at Reliance Industries Ltd’s 47th Annual General Meeting in August 2024, is designed to lower AI adoption costs for businesses and developers. The platform will offer machine learning as a service, allowing companies to integrate AI tools without requiring advanced expertise or expensive infrastructure.
Initially, JioBrain will support Reliance’s own applications, but Ambani noted that it will eventually be made available to external businesses looking to integrate AI into their products.
Cloud PC to Enable High-Performance Computing
Jio’s upcoming Cloud PC will allow users to access a full-fledged personal computer remotely, reducing the need for expensive hardware. With a stable internet connection, users can run resource-intensive applications on Jio’s cloud servers without relying on high-end local devices.
Ambani emphasized that the Cloud PC will be compatible with multiple devices and operating systems, making advanced computing more accessible for businesses, startups, and individuals across India.
Expansion of JioTele OS and AI Workforce
Jio is also focusing on its JioTele OS, a smart TV operating system, with a target of reaching 100 million users. The company aims to attract developers to build India-specific solutions for this platform.
Additionally, Ambani highlighted Jio’s growing AI workforce, which includes over 1,000 data scientists, researchers, and engineers. He stated that while AI will reshape job roles, it will not eliminate employment but rather create new opportunities.
With these initiatives, Jio is positioning itself as a key player in India’s AI and cloud computing landscape, offering solutions designed to bridge technology gaps for businesses and individual users.
