Noida, Sep 21 (APAC Media): State-owned BPCL and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) have signed an MoU to strengthen research, development and testing in sustainable mobility, advanced lubricants and next-generation fuels.
The partnership combines BPCL’s expertise in fuels, energy and lubrication technologies with ARAI’s capabilities in automotive testing, validation, research and engineering.
The MoU was exchanged by Kannan S, Business Head, BPCL Lubes, and Dr Reji Mathai, Director, ARAI, in the presence of Dr Bharat Newalkar, Head (R&D), BPCL, and senior officials.
Focus on Advanced Mobility Technologies
Under the collaboration, the organisations will undertake joint research and testing across advanced lubricants, coolants, fuel additives, speciality fluids, alternative fuels and energy solutions.
A key focus will be the development and validation of advanced fluids for electric vehicles, including thermal-management fluids and e-fluids for motors, inverters and reduction gears.
Research on Fuels and Lubricants
The partnership will also cover technologies for internal combustion engine vehicles. Advanced low-viscosity lubricants will be studied for their potential to reduce friction and improve efficiency while maintaining engine performance and durability.
Fuel additives and next-generation fuel formulations will also form part of the research, particularly in the context of higher ethanol blends such as E20 petrol.
Cleaner Mobility
The BPCL-ARAI collaboration is expected to support the development of cleaner, efficient and India-specific automotive technologies. By combining BPCL’s R&D capabilities with ARAI’s testing and validation expertise, the partnership aims to strengthen indigenous innovation across India’s evolving mobility ecosystem.
