New Delhi: In a major step towards enhancing automation and efficiency in rolling stock maintenance, Indian Railways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the procurement and installation of Automatic Wheel Profile Measurement Systems (AWPMS).
The agreement between Indian railways and DMRC was formalized at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, marking a significant advancement in the modernization of railway maintenance practices.
What is AWPMS?
AWPMS is an advanced technology that enables automatic, non-contact measurement of train wheel profiles. The system uses advanced laser scanners and high-speed cameras to deliver a real-time assessment of wheel geometry and wear, eliminating the need for manual measurement.
It ensures faster, accurate readings and triggers automated alerts in case of any deviation, allowing for timely corrective actions, thereby enhancing safety and operational efficiency.
MoU Signed by Senior Officials
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior officials of Indian Railways and DMRC, including B M Agrawal, Member (Traction & Rolling Stock), S K Pankaj, Additional Member (Production Units), Ashish Sharma, Additional Member (Mechanical Engineering), and Parmit Garg, Director (Business Development), DMRC.
Under this agreement, DMRC will undertake the procurement, supply, installation, and commissioning of four AWPMS units across Indian Railways’ network.
