Patna: In a major appointment ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has named IAS Vinod Kumar Gunjiyal as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar. A 2007-batch officer of the Bihar cadre, Gunjiyal succeeds H R Srinivas, a 1996-batch IAS officer.
IAS Vinod Kumar Gunjiyal, a Mechanical Engineering graduate, brings extensive administrative experience to his new role. Throughout his career, he has held several key positions within the Bihar government, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to public service.
Notably, he served as Secretary of the Prohibition, Excise & Registration Department, where he was instrumental in strengthening regulatory frameworks and enhancing departmental efficiency.
In addition, Gunjiyal contributed significantly to the state’s livestock and fisheries sectors, having served as Director of both the Animal Husbandry Department and the Fisheries Directorate. His broad administrative background has been recognised through his promotion to the Super Time Scale in the Bihar government, reflecting his consistent performance and dedication.
As CEO, Gunjiyal will be responsible for overseeing the electoral process in Bihar, ensuring that the Assembly elections scheduled for October-November 2025 are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bring experienced leadership to the electoral administration at a crucial time.
