New Delhi: The University of Houston (UH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Delhi Technological University (DTU), strengthening a five-year partnership aimed at advancing academic and research collaborations. The agreement includes an option for renewal in 2030.
Collaboration on Research and Academic Exchange
As part of this agreement, both universities will engage in joint educational and research initiatives. The collaboration will provide opportunities for the exchange of visiting scholars who will conduct research and contribute to academic discussions. The institutions will also share scholarly resources such as research papers, thesis indices, books, and academic journals.
In addition, students from both universities will have access to paid internships and cooperative education (co-op) programs. These placements will be facilitated by the host university, allowing students to gain practical experience in their respective fields.
Formalizing the Agreement
The MOU was signed by UH Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Diane Z. Chase, UH Cullen College of Engineering Dean Pradeep Sharma, DTU Vice Chancellor Prateek Sharma, and DTU Dean of International Affairs Pravir Kumar.
Chase emphasized UH’s commitment to global collaborations, stating that partnerships with top institutions like DTU benefit both universities and their surrounding communities. She expressed optimism about a strong and long-term relationship between UH and DTU.
Sharma highlighted that the MOU will contribute to an increase in the number of students enrolling in UH’s Master’s programs. He also noted that many of these students might extend their academic journey to pursue PhD programs.
Strengthening UH’s Presence in India
This collaboration is the latest in a series of initiatives by UH to expand its academic ties with Indian institutions. In 2023, UH partnered with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to promote Tamil language, literature, and cultural studies. Prior to that, UH and the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas worked together to develop a geoscience data repository with software to analyze India’s sedimentary basins and oil fields.
Additionally, UH’s Andy & Barbara Gessner College of Nursing previously supported the MGM Institute of Health Science in Mumbai and Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences in launching a Doctor of Nursing Practice program at each institution.
With this latest agreement, UH continues to strengthen its academic collaborations in India, fostering greater exchange of knowledge, research, and student opportunities.
