Kolkata: The cyber crime cell of the Bengal Police is verifying and publishing a rectification to curb the spread of false news emanating during the current India-Pakistan skirmishes.
The Bengal Police has now issued guidelines on sharing information related to national security.
These include sharing or circulating information which has been shared only through the official channels of dissemination of information.
This news must be verified with official sources before spreading or circulating.
Fake news should be reported to 1930 it the Cybercrime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or Kolkata Police Cyber Police Station 9836513000 ot Pronam Helpline 9477955555 (for elderly citizens)
Nothing should be shared related to the location, movement or activity of the Indian armed forces. Even anything that could lead to communal disharmony should not be shared.
Recently, a video of Kathmandu showing protesters demonstrating against the police in front of a herbal medicine factory was falsely circulated on social media as the plight of a community in Bengal.
A footage from Tilabazar in Unakoti district of Tripura of protests was falsely circulated as Murshidabad riots in Bengal.
