Kolkata: West Bengal is setting up more than five AI-based data centres across the state this year, which include industry mammoths like Jio, Airtel, Adani and Microsoft. These alone are expected to generate more than 30000 – 40000 jobs this year.
In the current year itself, five such AI-based data centres have come up in Kolkata and its surroundings.
Most of these data centres are coming up in New Town’s Silicon Valley. Five more such infrastructures are coming up in New Town, while one more data centre will be established at the WEBEL IT Park in Siliguri.
It should be noted that Reliance Jio is building a 40-acre mega campus in Bengal Silicon Valley. Reliance Corporate IT Park and Microsoft have partnered for this mega campus, where they are setting up an AI-based data centre that will be ready by 2026.
The work for the Airtel Nakshatra data centre and LTIMindtree data centre is currently underway at the 250-acre Silicon Valley hub in New Town.
STT Telemedia and NTT have already started one data centre each in the state. While STT has Kolkata DC 1 already up in Ultadanga, now work is ongoing for the second data centre in New Town Action Area 2.
A six lakh sq ft NTT data centre has already begun operations in New Town Action Area 2, while another such establishment is set to come up soon. Another 5.25 lakh sq ft from Adani Enterprise’s data centre in New Town is also nearing completion.
Hiranandani Group is setting up a data centre in Uttarpara, Hooghly. Universal Success Enterprises, Technology Electric Engineering and Ctrl S are also setting up data centres in New Town.
