Faridabad: IIT Delhi has launched a new public outreach initiative, Jigyasa, to simplify complex scientific research and present it to non-expert audiences. The programme, led by the institute’s Academic Outreach Office, aims to connect ongoing research work at IIT Delhi with people outside the academic community, especially students and educators from other institutions.
Aim to Bridge Science and Society
Through Jigyasa, IIT Delhi researchers including faculty and students will present their work at various science and technology institutions across the country. The goal is to make science more accessible and relatable by engaging with the public in informal settings. The initiative focuses on helping people understand scientific developments without the need for technical background and aims to spark interest in the process of scientific enquiry among the youth.
Inaugural Session Held on National Technology Day
The first outreach event under Jigyasa took place on May 12, 2025, at JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad. Coinciding with National Technology Day, the event featured lectures, poster exhibitions, and panel discussions.
The session began with talks by Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vice Chancellor of JC Bose University, and Prof. Maithili Sharan from IIT Delhi, who spoke about India’s nuclear programme and the significance of developing indigenous technologies.
Research Showcase and AI Panel Discussion
Posters and live demonstrations presented by students and researchers from both IIT Delhi and JC Bose University highlighted current work in areas ranging from environmental sciences to technology. Discussions around these exhibits encouraged interaction between researchers and attendees, including students, scholars, and visitors.
In the afternoon session, Prof. Chetan Arora from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi, delivered a talk on ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) research at the institute. This was followed by a panel discussion titled “Artificial Intelligence: A Replacement or Augmentation for Human Intelligence”, featuring faculty members from IIT Delhi, including Professors Brejesh Lall, Prapanch Nair, and Chetan Arora. The session was moderated by Prof. Ritabrata Thakur and explored how AI is shaping different areas of research and education.
