Kolkata: The West Bengal government has appointed Sanchita Kumar and Mriganko Mehta as the two new state information commissioners.
While their appointments were announced a month back, the final approval from Governor C V Ananda Bose was pending, which came only on 30 April.
The two were selected from a list of nine applicants. Incidentally, Kumar, who is the wife of West Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar, is the first woman information commissioner of the state.
Kumar is a former IRS officer who was previously the principal commissioner of Income Tax. Mehta is a former member of the UPSC and a former Lok Sabha MP from Purulia.
Former DGP Virendra and ex-IAS officer Naveen Prakash are the current state chief information commissioners. Kumar and Mehra will now join them.
