Gangtok: The Sikkim Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation have launched a QR-based and audio guide-enabled platform, Sikkim Darshan, as a digital tourism innovation.
This digital initiative was launched during the 50th Statehood Day celebrations. Sikkim Darshan includes both a website version and a mobile application.
The digital platform showcased over 50 of Sikkim’s premier tourism destinations. Tourists can scan designated QR codes installed at different tourism spots.
They can instantly access detailed digital content about that particular site. This included high-resolution photo galleries, real-time safety updates and even local eateries and shops.
The platform, therefore, converts the smartphones into personal tour guides, making the visit more immersive.
The multilingual audio guide system provides engaging narration in Hindi, English and Nepali. The audio tour also explains the historical, cultural and environmental significance of each site.
By promoting digital engagement, Sikkim Darshan showcases the state’s commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious travel.
The Sikkim Darshan is a part of the state’s broader push towards smart tourism. The aim is to boost visitor engagement, enhance safety and make tourism more inclusive.
