Gangtok: The Sikkim government will conduct a free infertility health camp to boost population growth. The state currently has the lowest fertility rate in the country.
The Namchi district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, will organise this camp on 4 May at the Jorethang community hall.
The camp would raise awareness about infertility issues, offer medical consultations and guide couples facing conception challenges on treatment options.
The participants will benefit from services such as IVF consultation, fertility counselling, awareness on preservation of eggs, sperm and embryos, including freezing for individuals planning late marriages or undergoing cancer treatment.
According to the National Family Health Survey 2019-21, Sikkim has the lowest fertility rate in the country. It currently stands at 1.1, compared to the National fertility rate of 2.0.
In fact, Sikkim has registered a negative decadal growth of population. That makes Sikkim and Nagaland the only states in the country to witness a shrinking population.
