Kolkata: The West Bengal cabinet has approved a proposal to hand over 2515 acres of land for 10 steel plants to boost industrialisation in the state.
This land is across three industrial parks in Raghunathpur, Durgapur and Panagarh, and 10 companies are involved in setting up steel manufacturing units.
A total amount of Rs 25,000 crore will be invested. This will create about 70,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities at these steel plants.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to allot plots to 43 small and medium industries in 15 industrial estates across the state.
In 11 districts, the land is being handed to private partners for large markets or shopping malls. Two floors in the malls will be reserved for self-help groups from rural areas to showcase their products.
Purulia, Darjeeling, Bankura, Coochbehar, Howrah, Jalpaiguri, Jhargram, Murshidabad, Paschim Medinipur and Uttar Dinajpur have been identified for these projects.
In the remaining 12 districts, plots will be earmarked for large markets or shopping malls.
The government also plans an international IT, entertainment and cultural park in New Town, spread over 15 acres, to be built in a PPP venture.
