Chapalgaon: Independent renewable energy producer Juniper Green Energy has begun operations at its 145.99 megawatt peak (MWp) solar power project in Chapalgaon, Maharashtra.
The project, developed for the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), was commissioned on 22 May, nearly 19 months ahead of its Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD). This early commissioning stands out due to the short window between the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and the project’s operational launch.
The PPA was signed on 7 March, just 2.5 months before the plant went live.
According to Juniper Green Energy CEO Ankush Malik, the company was able to fast-track the project due to early-stage planning, including land acquisition and site preparation.
The development was also supported by timely clearances for grid connectivity, readiness of transmission infrastructure and due diligence on technical and environmental aspects. Although fast execution is not unusual in India’s solar sector, completing a project of this scale in under three months from PPA signing remains uncommon. The project is expected to supply electricity to MSEDCL at full capacity from the date of commissioning.
This development is part of a larger trend where states and distribution companies are increasingly relying on private renewable energy producers to meet energy demands while aligning with national decarbonization goals. Maharashtra, which has one of the highest electricity consumption rates in India, continues to attract large-scale clean energy investments. Juniper Green Energy currently operates multiple utility-scale solar, wind, and hybrid projects across India.
The Chapalgaon plant adds to the company’s growing portfolio, reinforcing the push toward decentralised and renewable power generation in regional grids.
