Kolkata: The West Bengal government has finally cleared the proposed Kidderpore Metro station on the upcoming Joka- BBD Bag Metro Corridor (Purple Line).
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation Commissioner has sent an official communication regarding this effect to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL), the implementing agency for the Purple Line.
Earlier, the state government had not granted permission for construction at Alipore’s Bodyguard Lines. This had stalled thr construction of the Kidderpore station.
The breakthrough happened after a series of negotiations between railway representatives and senior officials at the state Secretariat.
Kidderpore will be an underground station built beneath Diamond Harbour Road. The Purple Line is now functional on an eight-kilometre stretch between Joka and Majerhat. The next stop, Mominpore, will be the last elevated station before Kidderpore.
The station layout has been altered and certain conditions have been proposed for the construction.
These conditions include:
- The Bodyguard Line Barracks will remain completely unaffected by thr construction.
- The Dhobi Lines (inside the Kolkata Armed Police compound at the Bodyguard Lines) will also remain unaffected by the construction.
However, temporary relocation of certain segments may be permitted for safety reasons during construction. But these need to be restored to their original location after completion.
A total of 1702 sq m of land within the Bodygard Lines premises may be provided temporarily for construction-related activities. This land must be returned immediately after construction is completed.
Another 837 sq m of land near the boundary wall of the Bodyguard Lines will be permanently allotted.
This will be exclusively for the shifting of KMC utilities, widening of Diamond Harbour Road and construction of ventilation shafts and fire exits.
