Kolkata: The over 100-year-old Asutosh College of Kolkata has introduced 25 new skill-oriented certificate courses from this academic year.
These courses aim to modernise the academic curriculum to be more industry-friendly. All courses will have a combination of physical and online classes.
These certificate courses will be conducted by different departments of the college. Each course will be of 50 hours duration and spread over 12 weeks.
Students of Asutosh College, as well as those from other parts of West Bengal, can enrol for these courses.
Dr Manas Kabi, Principal, Asutosh College, feels these courses could enrich the future lives of the students.
The Zoology Department will conduct the Beekeeping and Management course. This will explore traditional and modern methods that support sustainable and ethical beekeeping. It will also teach skills to harvest and market bee products such as honey and beeswax, among others.
The Botany department will conduct thr Herbalism in Cosmetology, Aromatherapy and Yoga for Bioentrepreneurship course.
The Environmental Science department will conduct thr Wildlife Conservation and Ecotourism course. It will include hands-on field training, data analysis of modern technology in wildlife research and a specialised module on wildlife photography.
The Sanskrit department has designed a course on Vasti Shastra.
