Kolkata: India Posts has decided to roll out its next-generation Advanced Postal Technology application.
Accordingly, the head post offices of Beleghata in Kolkata, Serampore in Hooghly and Balurghat in South Dinajpur have been chosen for the pilot project today.
As a result, all public transactions will be suspended in 54 sub-offices and eight branch post offices under the Beleghata post office. No public transactions will happen in post offices in Salt Lake-New Town-Rajarhat today.
This temporary suspension of services is necessary to facilitate data migration, system validation and configuration processes.
The aim is to ensure the new system goes live smoothly and efficiently. The system migrated to a new software over the weekend.
No transactions will be possible today as there will be checks running continuously for possible data mismatches.
The upgraded system with a cloud-based server will be implemented from tomorrow onwards.
The more comprehensive rollout in the rest of West Bengal will take place on 5 August. This will necessitate other post offices too to stall services on 4 August.
