Agartala: Tripura has announced a Pumped Storage Project (PSP) to be set up in the state by NHPC with a generation capacity of 800 MW.
NHPC will set up the power storage plan in Dhalai district as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Power. This will be the first of its kind project in the Northeast.
NHPC has earlier set up a 900 MW PSP in Baghmundi in Purulia, West Bengal. These PSPs utilise surplus renewable energy generated during daytime and off-peak hours.
Consequently, integrating battery energy storage systems with renewable energy would ensure the availability of power during peak hours.
Tripura has also signed a Rs 2275 crore MoU with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to renovate the Rokhia and Doombur power projects. The aim is to double their capacity and improve efficiency.
