Kolkata: The State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) has set a target of Rs 2 lakh crore credit line for West Bengal’s MSME sector in 2025-26.
This translates into a 10+ per cent growth over 2024-25 when SLBC achieved a credit target of Rs 1.8 crores for MSMEs in West Bengal.
Incidentally, there are 45 lakh registered MSMEs in West Bengal. This accounts for seven per cent of India’s total registered MSMEs.
The credit deposit ratio in West Bengal was 70 per cent, much higher than the minimum CD ratio needed of 40 per cent. While Kolkata and Cooch Behar had a CD ratio of more than 100 per cent, 14 districts have CD ratio much less than the state average.
The agriculture sector has been leading West Bengal’s MSME drive. SLBC envisages a 15 per cent credit growth in the agriculture sector.
The banks disbursed Rs 1 lakh crore in the agriculture sector in 2024-25 and expect similar figures this year. The credit to SHGs could grow up to Rs 35,000 crore from Rs 30,000 crore last year.
