Shillong: Captain Williamson Sangma State University today became the first state university from Meghalaya to officially launch academic operations.
The induction ceremony of the 274 students will take place in the Tura and Shillong regional campuses.
The new university will bypass the CUET requirement that governs admissions at North-Eastern Hill University and affiliated institutions under NEP 2020.
The Tura campus will offer 10 postgraduate courses in Anthropology, Economics, Education, Environmental Science, Garo, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology.
The Shillong regional campus provides programs in Commerce, English, Khasi and Social Work.
The permanent 90-acre campus in Tura was completed in 2022 with Special Plan Assistance funding of Rs 16.96 crore.
There will be 11 colleges across Meghalaya that will receive the University affiliation and adopt the same CUET-free admission policy for postgraduate students.
