New Delhi: India Post has rolled out its Advanced Postal Technology (APT) platform nationwide in a Rs 5,800-crore upgrade aimed at modernising postal services and strengthening its logistics network. Hosted on the government’s MeghRaj 2.0 cloud and supported by BSNL connectivity, the platform integrates digital tools to improve reliability, efficiency, and service delivery across more than 165,000 post offices. The phased rollout began with a pilot in Karnataka in May 2025 and expanded steadily before achieving full coverage of 170,353 post offices, mail offices, and administrative units by early August.
APT builds on the IT Modernisation Project 1.0 and introduces a unified interface, real-time consignment tracking with SMS updates, GPS-enabled postmen, QR-code payments, OTP-based delivery, and a 10-digit alphanumeric Digi PIN to reduce errors in delivery. Officials said the platform has already demonstrated its capacity, processing over 3.2 million bookings and 3.7 million deliveries in a single day. Nearly 460,000 employees underwent training under a “Train, Retrain, Refresh” model to ensure smooth transition without disrupting services.
The Department of Posts expects the system to reduce operational costs through automation, expand e-commerce reach, and enhance citizen-first services. With India Post operating the world’s largest postal network, the initiative is seen as a key step in strengthening last-mile connectivity and improving access to digital services in both rural and urban areas. The upgrade reflects the government’s broader efforts to modernise public infrastructure and align postal operations with the growing demands of a digital economy.
