New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has selected LTIMindtree Ltd to design and implement PAN 2.0, a consolidated digital platform aimed at streamlining and modernizing PAN and TAN-related services. The Rs 1,435-crore project, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in November 2024, is expected to go live within 18 months.
Currently, PAN-related services are dispersed across three platforms: the Income Tax e-Filing portal, UTIITSL, and Protean eGov Technologies. PAN 2.0 will consolidate these services into a unified system, offering a centralised platform for PAN and TAN allotment, corrections, Aadhaar-PAN linking, reissuance requests, and online PAN validation. The move aims to improve service delivery, reduce redundancy, and enhance user accessibility.
Existing PAN holders will not be required to reapply, as their data will be automatically integrated into the new system. Officials noted that the platform will also improve grievance redressal and tracking mechanisms, addressing long-standing inefficiencies in the current process.
LTIMindtree has been appointed as the Managed Service Provider (MSP) for the entire lifecycle of the project, encompassing system design, development, deployment, operations, and ongoing maintenance.
The initiative forms a part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance digital public infrastructure under the Digital India mission. By enabling faster, transparent, and integrated access to tax-related services, PAN 2.0 is expected to set a benchmark in digital governance and public service delivery.
