Pune: Suzlon Group has joined the RE100 initiative, becoming the first Indian energy company to commit to sourcing 100% renewable electricity across all its manufacturing facilities by 2030. The initiative, led by Climate Group in partnership with CDP, brings together over 400 global corporations working toward a transition to clean power.
Suzlon’s pledge is part of a structured decarbonisation roadmap. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035 and net-zero emissions, including Scope 3, by 2040. Scope 1 covers direct operational emissions, Scope 2 includes indirect emissions from purchased electricity, and Scope 3 extends across the supply chain and product lifecycle.
Progress on these targets is already visible. The company reports that its Rotor Blade Unit in Dhule operates entirely on renewable energy, helping Suzlon reach 92.87% carbon neutrality at the plant level. In FY 2023–24, it reduced energy intensity by 17.19%, cut Scope 1 and 2 emission intensity by 88.51%, and increased renewable energy consumption by 80.7%.
By joining RE100, Suzlon strengthens its positioning within a global network of companies advocating renewable energy adoption and influencing market trends. Its membership as India’s first “Gold Member” also underscores a shift in the country’s energy sector, as domestic manufacturers increasingly align operations with international climate commitments and India’s own net-zero targets.
Suzlon’s participation reflects a broader trend of Indian firms integrating sustainability into core business strategies, signalling a gradual transformation in industrial energy use.
