New Delhi: Commuting between Delhi and Meerut is set for a major upgrade with the upcoming launch of the Namo Bharat trains and the Meerut Metro, both of which are in the final trial stage and expected to begin operations soon.
The 82-kilometre stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram will take just about 55 minutes on Namo Bharat, while shorter journeys such as Delhi to Meerut South will be covered in around 30 minutes, cutting travel times drastically compared to road trips.
Part of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System, Namo Bharat will run at speeds of up to 160 kmph, making it India’s first semi-high-speed regional service. Trains will operate every 10 minutes, offering a fast, reliable alternative for daily commuters.
Service hours will be 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and Saturdays, and 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Sundays. The first train from Meerut South will leave at 6:00 AM, with the last from Modinagar North scheduled for 10:48 PM.
Sharing a 23 km stretch with Namo Bharat across 13 stations, the Meerut Metro is set to become India’s first integrated intercity-urban train corridor.
Passengers can board every 7 minutes during peak hours, with seamless transfers possible on the same platform and no separate tickets required. Service timings will mirror those of Namo Bharat, with frequency ranging from 5 to 15 minutes depending on demand.
Integrated Technology & Passenger Benefits
Both services will be monitored through a centralised Operation Control Centre, deploying ETCS Level-2 technology, Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) to ensure safety and efficiency. Modern stations, single-ticket travel, and advanced passenger facilities will add to commuter convenience.
Officials said fare structures will be announced soon, but stressed that the shared ticketing system will allow hassle-free travel between the two services.
