New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of additional charge of Chairperson of the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) to IAS Debashree Mukherjee
Mukherjee is a 1991-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre. The approval given is ex post facto.
Mukherjee is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), she will hold the additional charge for six months. Her tenure will continue until a regular appointment is made or until further orders are issued, whichever is earlier.
The NCVET acts as a key regulator in the field of vocational education and training. It is responsible for ensuring quality assurance, standardization, and coordination of various skill development initiatives across the country. The body plays an important role in aligning vocational training with industry needs and in strengthening India’s skilling ecosystem.
Mukherjee’s appointment is expected to bring continuity and administrative support to the NCVET’s efforts at a time when the government is focused on expanding skill development opportunities nationwide.
