Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has appointed IAS Manoj Kumar Das, a 1990-batch officer of the Gujarat cadre, as the new Chief Secretary of the state, following the superannuation of IAS Pankaj Joshi.
Das, who is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister at Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar, will officially assume charge as the state’s top bureaucrat at the end of this month.
With over three decades of administrative experience, Das has served in key positions across the state and central governments. He began his career as District Development Officer (DDO) in Vadodara and went on to hold important roles in multiple districts, earning recognition for his developmental approach and governance efficiency.
He has served as municipal commissioner of Vadodara and Surat, where his urban governance initiatives received eight national awards. His other major assignments include Joint Managing Director, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC); Director and Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; Principal Secretary, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department; and Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Mines Department.
During his tenure in the Industries and Mines Department, Das played a key role in formulating and launching the Gujarat Industrial Policy 2020, which was translated into eight languages to attract global investors.
An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Das holds a B.Tech (Hons.) in Computer Science and Engineering.
