New Delhi: The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, is set to hire approximately 3,500 officers this year to enhance its operations and improve customer service nationwide.
According to SBI Deputy Managing Director (HR) and Chief Development Officer (CDO) Kishore Kumar Poludasu, the bank recently recruited 505 probationary officers (POs) in June, and a similar round of hiring is currently underway. “Applications have already been received for the new recruitment process,” he said, according to reports.
SBI has already issued an advertisement for 541 PO vacancies, with the selection process comprising three stages: prelims, mains and a psychometric test, followed by interviews.
In the specialist officer category, Poludasu said about 1,300 professionals have been selected to handle IT and cybersecurity functions. Additionally, the bank plans to recruit nearly 3,000 circle-based officers within the current financial year.
Earlier this year, SBI Chairman C. S. Setty announced that the bank’s total hiring across categories would touch 18,000, including 13,500 clerical posts and the rest for probationary and circle-based officers. In the first quarter, SBI had already recruited 13,455 junior associates and 505 POs to enhance customer experience at its branches.
Poludasu also highlighted SBI’s focus on improving gender diversity within its workforce. The bank aims to raise the proportion of women employees to 30 per cent over the next five years.
SBI, which employs over 2.4 lakh people, the highest in India’s banking industry, has rolled out several initiatives to support women employees. These include a creche allowance for working mothers, a family connect programme and training modules to help women transition back to work after maternity leave, sabbaticals, or extended illness.
The bank’s flagship initiative, Empower Her, aims to mentor and groom women for leadership roles through structured leadership labs and coaching sessions.
