Ranchi: Jharkhand on Saturday announced new projects worth Rs 8,799 crore as the state marked 25 years since its formation. The government said the investments are aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps and supporting long-term development under its “Viksit Jharkhand 2050” vision.
Of the total allocation, Rs 4,475 crore went towards foundation-stone projects focused on water resources, urban development, roads, health and education. Another Rs 4,324 crore was earmarked for roads, rural development, energy and higher education. Officials noted that the funding spread reflects the state’s attempt to upgrade essential public services while improving connectivity and utility access across districts that continue to face developmental delays.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, addressing a gathering at Morabadi ground in Ranchi in the presence of Governor Santosh Gangwar, said Jharkhand’s growth path over the past 25 years had been uneven and required a more structured, sector-driven approach for the next phase. He said the state is prioritising human-resource development alongside physical infrastructure to improve service delivery in health, education and rural development.
He also pointed to the Maiyyan Samman Yojana, launched during his 2019–24 tenure, which has influenced recent welfare spending patterns. According to him, nearly half of the state’s current budget now goes toward women-focused schemes. Government officials said these allocations are part of a broader push to strengthen economic participation and social security for women, particularly in low-income communities.
The announcements come as states across eastern India reassess development strategies amid rising demand for reliable infrastructure and public services. Jharkhand’s new commitments indicate a continued reliance on infrastructure-led growth while the government works to align policies with its long-term 2050 development framework.
