Noida: VA TECH WABAG, a leading Indian water technology multinational, has secured a large repeat order from the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB) for a new state-of-the-art water treatment plant in Nepal.
The project will support growing water needs in the Kathmandu Valley and is funded by the Asian Development Bank.
255 MLD Sundarijal WTP to Strengthen Water Security
The company will design, build, and operate the new Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant, which will have a capacity of 255 million liters per day. The facility will be built next to the existing Melamchi WTP, also developed by WABAG in 2017. The plant will treat water drawn from the Melamchi, Yangri, and Larke rivers. It will comply with Nepal’s National Drinking Water Quality Standards and help ensure improved supply for the expanding urban population.
Lifecycle Partnership Model
WABAG will complete the engineering, procurement, and construction work over 36 months. This will be followed by five years of operation and maintenance. The contract highlights the company’s focus on long-term service and lifecycle project delivery.
Strengthening Presence in Nepal
According to Arvind Dullu, Regional Business Head – South and Southeast Asia, the repeat order reflects MWSDB’s continued confidence in WABAG’s technical expertise. The company believes the project reinforces its strong presence in Nepal and supports its leadership position in South Asia’s water sector.
