New Delhi: The Union government has urged States to put forward more women officers and those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for Central deputation, with an emphasis on improving their representation in senior positions.
In a communication to State Chief Secretaries, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) asked that nominations be limited to officers who are unlikely to be recalled for at least two years due to promotions. The nominated officers will be considered for postings under the Central Staffing Scheme as well as for Chief Vigilance Officer roles in Central Public Sector Enterprises and other Central government bodies.
The ministry highlighted that deputation to the Centre plays a key role in strengthening administrative capacity and enabling officers to gain national-level exposure. It also referred to the Central Deputation Reserve framework for IAS officers, stressing the need for proper cadre management and fair opportunities for eligible officers to serve at the Centre.
States were cautioned against withdrawing nominations once recommended, as doing so could attract a five-year ban from Central deputation, including foreign assignments. The DoPT also said that officers already debarred should not be nominated. From 1 January 2026, all nominations will be processed through a dedicated online portal.
